Lo scorso fine settimana si è svolta la regata di Moschiena Draga (Croazia) organizzata da YC Orion e valida come tappa del prestigioso circuito Franz Joseph cup. Purtroppo assenti l’ideatore del circuito ed ex commodoro Pietro Fantoni, il segretario austriaco Ezio Prataviera ed il capoflotta ledrense Massimo Cigalotti; sono comunque presenti ben 12 equipaggi.
Nikola Deskovic, presidente del circolo e segretario snipe croato, ci ha accolti con amicizia ed il consueto calore. Ben 5 equipaggi italiani, oltre ai 7 corati, si sono dati battaglia nelle acque antistanti il lo YC Orion. Moschiena Draga è splendida ma soprattutto è sempre bello sentirsi ben accolti dagli organizzatori delle regate, rinsaldare amicizie e farne di nuove. In questa regata con Marta abbiamo avuto il piacere di passare un paio di serate con Felice e Chiara e conoscere Mladen, vincitore della prova di sabato e sempre vicino a noi durante le regate della domenica. Bello anche rivedere Milco e Dean che spesso vengono a regatare anche sui nostri laghi.
Sabato la bora soffia forte (20 nodi di media con raffiche oltre 25) e scendono in acqua solo i più coraggiosi e più allenati. Viene disputata una sola prova con percorso olimpico che però non viene ben capito da tutti gli equipaggi. Girano primi la boa di bolina Toffolo – Longhi seguiti da Rochelli – Semec. Le due barche italiane scendono veloci nei laschi ma sbagliano la boa di poppa mentre Peharda – Uginic non sbagliano e vanno a vincere. Rochelli – Semec, che prima di Toffolo – Longhi si erano accorti dell’errore, chiudono secondi.
La domenica il vento cala e si riescono a disputare tre prove con vento oscillante e bordi mai scontati.
Vince la regata il segretario europeo Daniela Semec con al timone il marito Fabio Rochelli. Bellissimo rivedere Eleonora Zuzic, storica prodiera di Stefano Longhi che da qualche anno regata a prua del bravissimo Gioele Toffolo. Eleonora questa volta è invece a prua del promettente Andrea Cabrini. Cabrini – Zuzic, equipaggio giovane e molto leggero, hanno dimostrato coraggio e abilità nel portare a termine la prova di sabato, mentre domenica hanno fatto vedere ottimi spunti di velocità soprattutto in poppa.
Grazie a Nikola Deskovic, Igor Staraj e Ivo Bruneta per averci fatto divertire anche quest’anno.

Last weekend YC Orion of Moschiena Draga (Croatia) organized a regatta of the prestigious Franz Joseph cup circuit. Unfortunately absent the creator of the circuit and ex commodore Pietro Fantoni, the Austrian secretary Ezio Prataviera and the Ledro fleet captain Massimo Cigalotti; however 12 crews were present.
Nikola Deskovic, president of the club and Croatian snipe secretary, welcomed us with friendship. As many as 5 Italian crews, in addition to the 7 Croatian, battled in the waters in front of the YC Orion. It’s always nice to feel welcome by the organizers of the regattas, strengthen friendships and make new ones. In this regatta Marta and I had the pleasure of spending a couple of evenings with Felice and Chiara and getting to know Mladen, winner of Saturday’s race and always close to us during Sunday’s regattas. Also nice to see Milco and Dean who often come to race on our lakes too.
On Saturday the bora blows strongly (20 knots on average with gusts over 25) and only the best and most trained take to the water. Only one race was held with an Olympic course which, however, was not well understood by all the crews. Toffolo – Longhi round the windward mark first followed by Rochelli – Semec. The two Italian boats go downwind fast but miss the mark while Peharda – Uginic make no mistakes and go on to win. Rochelli – Semec, who had noticed the mark mistake earlier of Toffolo – Longhi, finished second.
On Sunday the wind drops and it is possible to compete in three races with fluctuating wind and edges that are never predictable.
The European secretary Daniela Semec wins the regatta with her husband Fabio Rochelli at her helm. It was wonderful to see Eleonora Zuzic again, Stefano Longhi’s historic crew who has been racing for some years as crew of the very good Gioele Toffolo. Eleonora this time is instead crew of the promising Andrea Cabrini. Cabrini – Zuzic, a young and very light crew, showed courage and skill in completing Saturday’s race, while on Sunday they showed excellent speed especially downwind.
