Lo scorso fine settimana l’associazione velica trentina ha organizzato il 20° german open, nota regata abbinata ad una maratona culinaria senza uguali nel globo terracqueo.
Dopo una pausa di qualche anno, è tornato al timone del sodalizio lacustre Herbert Hoerterich che è anche il patron della famosa regata che, da sempre dal 2002, si disputa il fine settimana dopo le Pentecoste.
Purtroppo il meteo non è stato dei migliori ma l’instabilità ha comunque permesso lo svolgimento di 5 delle sei prove in programma.
Ben 35 barche presenti delle quali 5 dal Belgio, 4 dalla Germania e 1 “targata” Norvegia. Oltre ai “vecchi” amici belgi Manu Hens che per l’occasione aveva a prua il due volte campione del mondo Alexandre Tinoco (brasiliano), e Marc Cornellisens, abbiamo avuto il piacere di conoscere Sara & Sonia, Yannick & Federico, Dirk & Sofia, sempre dal Belgio, oltre a rivedere Gullermo & Floriane. Bello ritrovare il mitico Turchetto che per l’occasione cede il timone ad un bravissimo Stefano Grulli, 2° nella prima prova, che speriamo si affezioni alla classe. Si è pure materializzato Sergio Irredento, per qualche (troppo) tempo in altre faccende affaccendato ma ora riapparso con la solita pacatezza e solarità. Presenti, quasi al completo come da tradizione, gli squadroni degli amici triestini e cremonesi.
Si comincia venerdì a mezzogiorno con brevi discorsi delle autorità e l’alzabandiera. la qualità dell’audio può essere migliorata ma ascoltare gli inni tedesco, italiano ed europeo dà un tocco di solennità. La manifestazione entra nel vivo e si iniziano a distribuire panini con leberkaese, mostarda o senape.
Si sviluppano temporali intorno al lago e dopo aver udito qualche tuono un debole vento da nord induce la giuria a far partire la prima regata. A causa del calo del già debole vento, la regata viene saggiamente ridotta alla seconda bolina. Le nubi si diradano ma il vento cessa del tutto. La giuria, verso le 17.30, manda tutti a terra. Un errore non aspettare l’arrivo del vento da sud che dopo poco inizia a distendersi bene sul lago. Il lato positivo è che c’è tutto il tempo per sistemare la barca, fare la doccia ed arrivare non troppo stanchi alla cena light… che tanto light non è dato che è costituita da abbondante pasta e fagioli, preceduta da antipasto di affettati e seguita da un dolce gentilmente offerto, come di consueto, dalla Stuffer. Da segnalare la possibilità della verdura fresca che mancava nelle prime edizioni del German.
Sabato la partenza è fissata da bando alle 14 ma la mitica porchetta inizia a girare sullo spiedo già alle 8 di mattina sorvegliata da Vittorio Franzoi. Dopo la pasta al pomodoro o pasticciata ed eventualmente delle mele golden, vengono disputate due regate, con vento da sud molto oscillante nella prima prova e con raffiche anche da 25 nodi nella seconda. Le regate sono divertenti e in molti si lamentano di non poter disputare la terza prova. Lunghe chiacchierate per arrivare alle 20 quando, finalmente, viene distribuita la cena con porchetta, patate e insalata. Segue strudel con panna.
La domenica la partenza è anticipata alle 11 ma il vento non è stabile con piogge intermittenti ma, comunque, poco dopo le 12 si parte. Il vento è oscillante e non molto ben distribuito ma i primi sono sempre i soliti. Si fanno 2 belle prove. Al termine della seconda prova si vede pioggia a sud del lago che sembra avvicinarsi: tutti rientrano e le regate finiscono anche se poi alla velica trentina arriverà solo qualche goccia. C’è tutto il tempo per un panino col wurstel, senape o mostarda, e caricare. La premiazione chiude la festa e tutti i partecipanti si portano a casa una bottiglia di ottimo Teroldego delle cantine Zanini. I primi anche un pacco di prodotti locali offerti dalla coldiretti del Trentino.
Appuntamento al prossimo anno quando pare sarà nuovamente presente lo squadrone belga e si spera tornino anche gli amici croati e polacchi.
Herbert gongola: tutto è andato bene e, soprattutto, il vincitore della regata Manu Hens ha dichiarato il German Open la più bella regata del mondo.

Last weekend, the Associazione velica trentina organized the 20th German Open, a well-known regatta combined with a culinary marathon unique on the globe.
After a break of a few years, Herbert Hoerterich has returned to the helm of the lake association. As everybody knows, Herbert is also the patron of the famous regatta which has always been held, since 2002, on Caldonazzo lake during the weekend after Pentecost.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best but the instability still allowed 5 of the six scheduled races to take place.
As many as 35 boats on the starting line, of which 5 from Belgium, 4 from Germany and 1 “registered” Norway. In addition to the “old” Belgian friends Manu Hens with the two-time world champion Alexandre Tinoco (Brazilian) at the bow, and Marc Cornellisens, we had the pleasure of meeting Sara & Sonia, Yannick & Federico and Dirk & Sofia again from Belgium, as well as Gullermo & Floriane. Nice to find the legendary Turchetto who for the occasion gives the helm to a very good Stefano Grulli, 2nd in the first race. Sergio Irredento also materialized with his usual kindness. The squadrons of friends from Trieste and Cremona were also present, almost in full force as usual.
It begins on Friday at noon with brief speeches by the authorities and the raising of the flags. the audio quality could be improved but listening to the German, Italian and European hymns is solemn. The event gets underway and sandwiches with leberkaese, mustard or mustard begin to be distributed.
Showers and thunderstorms develop around the lake and after hearing some thunder a weak north wind induces the jury to start the first regatta. Due to the drop in the already weak wind, the regatta was wisely reduced to the second windward. The cloudiness decreases but also the wind. Around 5.30 PM, the jury raises intelligence on A: a mistake because after a short time a south breeze begins to spread over the lake. The good side is that there was a lot of time to set up the boats, take a shower and arrive not too tired for the light dinner… which isn’t so light as you could think since it consisted of plenty of pasta & fagioli, preceded by an appetizer and followed by a dessert kindly offered, as usual, by Stuffer. Worth noting is the possibility of fresh vegetables which was missing in the first editions of the German.
On Saturday, the starting time is set at 2 pm, while the legendary porchetta begins to turn on the spit as early as 8 in the morning, supervised by Vittorio Franzoi. After the pasta, two regattas are held, with a very unstable southerly wind in the first race and with gusts of up to 25 knots in the second. The regattas are fun but many complain about not being able to compete in the third race. Long chats waiting at 8 p.m. when, finally, dinner with porchetta, potatoes and salad is distributed. Strudel with cream follows.
On Sunday the starting time is anticipated at 11 but the wind is not stable with showers but, in any case, shortly after noon the regatta begins. The wind is unstable but in the first positions are always the same crews. At the end of the second race, a shower can be seen south of the lake which seems to be approaching: it is the end of regatta even if only few raindrops fall at the club. There’s a lot of time for a sausage sandwich. The prize giving ceremony closes the event and all the participants take home a bottle of excellent Teroldego Zanini. Winners also get a pack of local products offered by Trentino’s coldiretti.
See you next year when it seems the Belgian squadron will be present again and hopefully our Croatian and Polish friends will also return.
Herbert rejoices: everything went well and, above all, the winner of the regatta, Manu Hens declared the German Open the most beautiful regatta in the world.
